Joshua 24:15
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
The Lord kept His promise and set the children of Israel free from the Egyptian taskmaster. New journey begging as they march through the wilderness to the promised land. The Lord had provided food and water for their hunger and thirst. Cloud by day to protect them from the heat of the sun and fire by night to keep them warm. They encountered many enemies, but God gave them victory after victory. God provided everything they needed for forty years.
Traveling among the people was unbelief, an enemy of the promised land. Even though they departed from Egypt, many brought the ways of Egypt into their minds. Escaping the past without confrontation does not indicate freedom. In time, unbelief will manifest in their thinking and prevent them from enjoying the promised land. Their bodies were free from the taskmaster whips, but their hearts and mind remained captive to the past.
Many believers remain in bondage to the past. God saved and forgave them, but the past continues to torment their minds. They are incapable of partaking in the Lord’s goodness because they won’t let go. Even though God set them free, their unbelief keeps them in bondage. Unbelief questions God’s forgiveness; how could God forgive me after what I have done?
Brethren, by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Our salvation is secure in Christ. However, every believer has a choice to make. Either let go or live in the past. As we let go by faith, we embrace the promises of God and taste and see that the LORD is good. His unconditional and steadfast love will erase our past. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Those refusing to let go will be in bondage with chains of bitterness, resentment, and misery. God set us free from bondage, but letting go is our choice. Therefore, choose you this day whom ye will serve.
