Song of Solomon 3:1-2
By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways
I will seek him whom my soul loveth:
A Shulammite woman, her name was insignificant, but her action was everlasting. She was resting under the shadow of the Almighty, enjoying His presence when suddenly, He was gone. The absence of His presence created such emptiness within her heart that it caused her to pursue Him. The decision wasn’t an option because she was in love with Him and followed Him with all her heart. Her love for Him was a gift from the Holy Spirit.
The place was comfortable, but His presence was no longer there. The bed was warm and cozy, and the night was cold and dark, but the longing to be with Him was greater. She was tired, and it was late, but long to be in His presence. Therefore, she came out of her comfortable environment and sought after Him. All she wanted was to be with Him.
A seeking heart will turn every stone, climb every mountain top and travel every low valley until they find its heart’s desire. Meantime the longing increases for the moment of the visitation. Suddenly without any notice, I found him whom my soul loveth. Finally, she can rest before His presence. My beloved is mine, and I am his. Peace set in, and the rest was sweet as she fell asleep under the covering of God.
In her peaceful rest, she can hear His voice calling her. My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. Once again, she was awakened and noticed He was gone. However, she recalls what He told her, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. Comforted by His words, she got up and pursued after Him desiring the next visitation.
Brethren, the longing in your heart for His presence is His desire to draw you closer to Himself. Each visitation increases your love for Him, creating a greater desire for another encounter. Suddenly He leaves, not because He is offended, but because He loves when you seek Him. Each visitation draws you deeper into His love.
