2 Samuel 1:27

How are the mighty fallen

King Saul and the Israelite army took the Ark of the Covenant and when to war against the Philistines. The Ark of the Covenant is where they kept the two table stones engraved with the ten commandments. The Israelites lost the war, and the Philistines took the Ark of the Covenant with them. The mighty army of Israel had fallen to the enemies, but how and why did it happen? God told Saul to go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, but Saul and the people spared Agag.

Saul had rebelled against God, and he did it again by going to war without the blessing from the prophet Samuel. He took the Ark of the Covenant with him to assure them of victory. Saul believed he could win by using the name of God, yet without His blessing.

Multitude believes in obtaining the blessing from the Lord by quoting some bible verses. The Word of God is not a magical charm used to gain the favor of the Lord by those living in rebellion. Using God’s name without reverence is mockery, equivalent to taking His name in vain.

Jesus Christ is the incarnated Word of God. He come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Unless the Word of God is alive in us, we remain lifeless. However, you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins. We live because the Word of God is alive in us. It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The Scriptures are our gift from God, given to those living righteously according to the writing. Our blessing is released as we apply it in our lives; Otherwise, we are powerless in the war.

Brethren, today, many converted and the unconverted are using bible verses but not necessarily living by them. Expecting the blessing of the Lord to rest on them yet living in rebellion is evil thinking. God blessed us with His Word so that we may live a life of abundance. However, do not be deceived, it requires us to live righteously and apply the Scriptures to release the blessing. How do mighty men fall? By having the Word of God yet living in disobedience.
