John 2:5
...Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice. Just do it, no matter how ridicules it may seen.
Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. There were six water-pots, each holding about twenty to thirty gallons of water. Without any hesitation the servants obey; back and forth they when until each pot was filled to the top. Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. They obey Jesus' command and the water which they served became wine. The transformation of the water into wine happened during their act of obedience to Jesus' commands.
As servants of Christ, we have been called to prayer. Prayer is one of the most undesirable things to do in the church today evidenced by the attendance. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. Prayer is pro-active; it demands action by calling us out of our comfort zone to labor. The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few, the truth is that few are willing to obey and serve. To those that are laboring in prayer, keep praying no matter how many times you have prayed. Even if you don't see anything happen or you feel like you are the only one doing it, just keep praying.
The governor of the feast tasted the wine and said, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. There are many governors that live to judge and criticize the performance of others. They desire to be acknowledged and the servitude of others is a part of their entitlement. They long to drink the good wine, however they would rather wait or even go without instead of laboring in praying to obtain for themselves.
Consider the difference between Moses and Christ. Moses first miracle was turning the water into blood and Jesus first miracle was turning the water into wine. Moses represents the law of God and Christ represent God's grace. Like the governor, many are in the feast, but have only taste of the law. They are intoxicated with good works and requirements because that is the only thing they know. There are some that have never tasted of God's grace yet are satisfied with their position. We must first go through the law of God then into His grace, otherwise we will abuse His grace and live lawlessly. Unless God's people taste and see that the LORD is good they will remain in this condition.
Serving through prayer is not an easy thing, but we all have being call to be a servant, For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister. Prayer is done in secret and with a willingness of heart; there is no recognition, yet those that sow in tears shall reap in joy. Many desire to taste of the good wine, but have not, therefore they falsify their experience. Perhaps the question is this; will you labor and serve behind the scene for someone else? To the few that will say yes to this question keep in mind that weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Extraordinary things happen when we labor and serve in prayer out of love for God's commandments and obedience to His Word. God has saved the best wine for last.
